Mastering Self-Awareness: The Importance of Understanding Mental and Emotional Roots

First of all, when we only focus on the physical and ignore the emotional and mental aspects of our health anxiety, we might be missing key insights into our overall health. Our bodies are complex systems influenced by our minds and emotions, and sometimes physical symptoms are the ways our bodies communicate deeper issues.

“I can’t tell you how many times I see people that are very, very committed to the health anxiety recovery process, and they do the right things. They do plenty of exercises that calm the nervous system. They communicate with their lower self or little me in a way that is mindful, compassionate, and guiding throughout the day. They do surrender sessions. They understand their anxiety very, very well. And yet, they are only 99% convinced that their physical discomforts, symptoms, and even pains are coming from a mental and emotional root cause.”

The Impact of Doubt on Recovery

Now, if you only believe that at a 99% level, you’re not going to be able to get out of your health anxiety. If you only believe at a 99% rate that this is the cause of what you’re experiencing physically, then you will continue to be in a limbo of potentially thinking that you have some kind of a physical issue, a structural issue, an illness, disease, because that 1% keeps you questioning your physical and overall health.

“You must be 100% convinced that your mental patterns… Can you imagine in your own life how often you have given strength and invested, emotionally invested, in a particular fear-centered idea? I mean, if we do get over 60,000 ideas that cross our mind on a daily basis, how many of those are centered around fear? For a health anxiety sufferer, many.”

Mastering Self-Awareness: Embracing a Call to Action

Health anxiety is a call to action, meaning there’s no more looking to the outside for answers on the inside. Now, it is about putting the knowledge that you have within you. It is about tapping into your own intuition, and it is about guiding living in a holistic lifestyle that brings you out of threat perception constantly and into a place where you mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually feel safe no matter what occurs on the outside.

“Health anxiety is a call to action… Your body is trying to ask you for guidance because for so many years, you haven’t focused on guiding your own system.”

Slowing Down and Reconnecting

There comes a time now, now, for a health anxiety sufferer where they must be 100% going. I feel this discomfort, I feel the sensation, I feel the symptom, and my body is asking me to guide it compassionately and with a sense of deep certainty that a new idea around this particular experience can and must be adopted.

“You cannot continue to live this way… It’s time to slow down, and the train is starting to slow down.”

The Journey of Self-Discovery

And when we mean pick up speed, we start to feel like we’re living a different life, number one. And number two, we start to feel like we no longer have to have all the answers to everything, including our own physical discomforts. And once you get to that point where you feel like you don’t have to have the answer to the physical discomforts, now this tight grip over life can start to be let go of.

“You are tapping into a major purpose in your life… Through health anxiety, you are tapping into liberation.”

  1. Hello Dennis , I was just wondering how do I know my physical symptoms are just my anxiety? I have been to Drs for some of my symptoms but no Dr has said I think it’s anxiety. I have a lot of symptoms that come and go. I could be fine one minute and then here comes the thoughts. Every ache or pain I get I think what is that now? I do work for a Dr and I see what they come in for and sometimes I think I have those same symptoms , maybe I should get checked out. I really don’t like to go to doctors, the minute they say oh your blood pressure up a bit or you need cholesterol meds or try antidepressants. I have terrible health anxiety and fearful of medications. I actually have allot of fears. I do see therapist every 2 weeks for over a year. I just don’t think it’s helping. I listen to your podcast every morning and I relate to everything you say and been through. I try to be a warrior and take all your advice So I’m wondering about your online program. You always talk about the subconscious mind and inner child and I don’t know if all my anxiety is coming from this. I’m very caring and compassionate and have much empathy I think it’s becoming a problem.

  2. Thank you for the insightful post. I have been struggling with health anxiety since early university years, 10 years ago! You mentioned a really mind awakening thing that is I don’t have to find an answer to everything. I wanted to analyze every sensation I have or discomfort which most of the time exaggerated my physical symptoms bcz of stress. Another idea that is worth mentioning in my opinion is the psychosomatic pain. I have to admit that whenever I think of pain in an area in my body, I start to literally feel it. The power of brain on my body is unbelievable. My brain played tricks several times maybe to show me that it’s all here… in your brain! The funny thing is that I was at the doctor today because of a “swollen” lymph node in my groin. ( That’s how my eyes saw it) and the doctor said it looks normally big to me, you can do some medical tests to be assured. And a HUUGE part of health anxiety is triggered by actually the wait for results to go out. How can I defeat the crippling fear that something wrong might appear in blood tests, imaging etc… It is so energy consuming
