Introduction to Setbacks Reframing
Warriors, welcome to the Health Anxiety Podcast show. I’m excited for this particular episode because I get to introduce you to a powerful reframing process specifically for health anxiety. During my days suffering from health anxiety, I felt like I was always making mistakes. I had setback after setback after setback. And if I had tools like this early on in my healing journey, I feel like I would have recovered a lot faster. So I present to you a setbacks reframing session.
All you have to do is sit back, relax, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and give yourself to the process fully.

Close your eyes. And give yourself permission to slowly let go. Let go of any tightness in your body. Let go of any thoughts about this meditation or the day. Just let go.
As you let go, you feel yourself becoming calmer and calmer. As your breathing slows down, enabling you to relax even deeper now. As your mind and body relax, you give yourself fully to this present moment. This moment holds tremendous power within it. The power to let go. The power to perceive your setbacks differently. And to get you back on track towards inner healing.
Imagining a Peaceful Environment
As your breathing becomes deeper, and your body becomes calmer, let’s begin by taking the pressure off of you for this setback. Imagine that you’re standing in the most peaceful environment in the world. This could be a place you’ve visited before, or a place you create in your own imagination. As you imagine yourself there, notice the one thing you see that makes you feel even calmer and more at peace.
Sensory Focus
Now focus on one thing that you can hear that brings a feeling of inner peace and calmness to you. Now focus on one thing you can touch, and notice how pleasant it makes you feel. As you bask in the calmness and pleasantness of this imagined environment, I want you to notice that you’re walking now. You’re slowly taking steps forward, as you do, the color that reminds you of this setback begins dripping off of your body with each step.
Letting Go of Negative Energy
Drip. Drip. Drip. With each step you take, you look back, and see this energy dripping off of you. And it begins to become absorbed by the ground completely as you feel lighter and lighter with each step. This setback is easily leaving parts of your body now where you’ve been storing it. As you notice this color dripping off of your body, you feel the permission to let it go completely now.
Embracing Freedom
A part of you is allowing you to leave this behind you now, and look forward to the lesson that it has taught you. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. What a beautiful feeling. A feeling of freedom to go beyond this setback, and to see it as something much smaller than what you thought it was. You now see beyond what you feel.
Affirmations and Reconnection
As you continue walking in your imagination, you notice that there’s no longer any of this negative energy dripping off of you. You take a moment to stand and feel what true lightness and inner peace feel like as these words resonate through your mind, your body, your spirit now.
“I am free to let this go. There is no such thing as failure, only feedback. The love that I have for myself and this journey that I’m on is back.”
Connecting with a Magic Tree
As you come back to the imagery of you in your peaceful place, I want you to notice a sparkling magic tree nearby. This tree is known for its healing properties when anyone touches it. Walk up to that tree now, touch it, and notice the color of love, safety, and freedom move through every cell in your body now.
Gratitude and Inner Peace
This energy has the potential to put all your doubts, fears, and limits aside and allows you to see all that you are grateful for in your life right now. What are you grateful for?
Exploring New Ideas
As you continue to connect with this magical tree, a feeling of peace moves through you as you now know in your heart that it’s okay to perceive your setback differently.
Within your imagery, you now take what this beautiful environment has given you and you find a resting place.
Reflection and Self-Inquiry
As you lay down to rest, you allow yourself to explore new ideas. These ideas show up as questions:
- What perspective can I take now to put this setback behind me for good?
- What have I learned from this setback?
- What can I make sure that I’m aware of for the future should another similar setback arise?
Present State
For now, in a much better mental space, your body is relaxed and you are emotionally pleasant.
Coming Back to Reality
As I count from 1 up to the number 5, you will begin coming back to your physical body and this physical reality with a new, loving approach towards yourself.
- Moving your body however it wants to move now.
- Allowing gratitude to overtake any lingering fears.
- Trusting that the answers you seek on this healing journey will all show up in time.
- Feeling more calm, more relaxed, and clearer than before.
- Eyes open, gently and compassionately, allowing yourself to take on the rest of your morning, afternoon, or evening now.
Conclusion
Remember, you are more than anxiety. Well done. Well done. Well done.
Do you feel lighter? Do you feel like a sense of clarity? Or do you feel like there’s a shift in perception towards your setback? If you do, just allow the process to happen. There’s nothing you need to overthink. Your subconscious mind and body will do what it does best, re-perceive or re-frame past setbacks when you can engage in the system the right way. Well done.
