Embracing Health Anxiety Freedom: A Journey of Awareness and Transformation

Thank you so much for joining us. Welcome to episode number 54 of the Health Anxiety Podcast. I am Dennis Simsek. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to join me. Warriors, in today’s podcast episode, I will be presenting to you three very practical and mindful steps that you must begin taking today in order for you to get on the path towards health anxiety freedom.

Understanding Health Anxiety Freedom

Now, let’s examine first of all what health anxiety freedom is. When I say health anxiety freedom, I’m talking about freedom from the interpretation you have currently around your anxiety symptoms and the sensitivity levels towards anything that you think may be detrimental towards your health.

A Deeper Connection

I am not talking about anxiety freedom. I am talking about health anxiety freedom, however, as this is more so connected to your memory bank, your identity, and your ability to do the deeper inner child work in order to clean up and resolve your past.

Beyond Anxiety

So what we have to acknowledge here is that health anxiety freedom doesn’t necessarily mean anxiety freedom. Health anxiety is a symptom of something going on at a deeper level. Okay? You take care of health. You take care of health anxiety.

The Inner Child’s Influence

That opportunistic inner child subconscious mind of yours will redirect your attention towards something else that you will be anxious over, brewed over, obsessed over to maintain your addiction to suffering.

Roots of Suffering

So we have to recognize that the roots of all of this come down to this necessity from your subconscious mind to find some kind of suffering because it aligns with your belief systems, because it aligns, because it aligns with your belief systems.

Initial Experiences

Because it aligns with your initial experiences on this planet. But today, we are delving deep into health anxiety.

Practical Step 1: Cultivating Awareness

Step one that I want you to start utilizing today is awareness. Awareness. You’re going, awareness? That’s it? Well, yeah, that’s it.

The Essence of Awareness

The awareness goes something like this. I have a feeling in the body, or I have an intrusive idea in the mind. I am conscious over my response to it. Without awareness, you will be reactive. Without awareness towards something, you will not have a perspective. You may think you’re having a perspective, but your perspective is based around the beliefs of your survival brain. Based around the beliefs of your reptilian brain.

The Reptilian Brain’s Influence

If you allow your reptilian aspect, your reptilian part of your brain, to run your life, everything will be threatening. Everything. As you can see, with every little twinge or every little heart palpitation, it’s doom or gloom. At least that’s what it feels like. But that’s not the truth.

Unveiling Truth

So step one is awareness. You have a feeling. In your body, yes, you have a feeling. You have an intrusive idea in the mind. Yes, I am ready to consciously respond to this. Experience shapes the brain. Remember that. Experience shapes the brain.

The Challenge Within

So every single time you get that anxiety symptom that normally takes you down that rabbit hole, guess what that is? That’s not a trigger. That’s a challenge. That’s an opportunity. You have an opportunity. And you’re more courageous than you think. You’re not giving yourself any credit for your progress lately. But you’re making progress. All you can ever focus on is how far you still have to go. That’s subconscious mind thinking. That’s not conscious mind thinking.

Practical Step 2: Unraveling Cause and Effect

Step two, after awareness, you’re aware of something, is the cause and effect response.

Probing the Origins

You go, what created this? Wow. What a powerful question. What created this? What mental or physical response did it lead to the effect? So in this moment, you’re going, well, yeah, I did have that really hard coffee this morning. Or I am still brooding over why, you know, Christy told me that I look a little pale this morning. Okay. Many times, when things happen in the morning or early afternoon, we pay the price later on in the evening or later on in the day. And we’re going, no, it couldn’t possibly be because of that thing. Well, it is. It is. That domino effect sometimes has a stagnant time to it. Right? So it’s this shock kind of response before you actually feel the physical symptoms, before you actually feel the intrusive ideas coming into your mind.

Understanding the Ripple Effect

So at this point, after you are aware of something in the body or something in the mind, you go through cause and effect. What created it? And what mental or physical response did it lead to? Wow.

Embracing Change

And my friends, with these three steps, do you have to do them forever? No. But let me promise you something. You will be doing them forever. Not consciously. But they’ll become habitual. Isn’t that great?

The Power of Habit

Too many people suffering from anxiety or health anxiety look at this monstrous thing, this monstrous path that they have to take, when in fact, you don’t have to do it forever. It becomes habitual. Once something becomes habitual, it becomes an unconscious habit, an unconscious pattern. It’s you. Everything changes.

Practical Step 3: Deciphering Meaning

So step one as you’re going through your day Step two is to recognize the cause of it and the effect.

Consciously Shaping Meaning

Why are these Practical Steps important? You need to consciously decide what this experience actually means. What’s the lesson? What will you stop doing? What will you start doing? Et cetera. But what does this experience actually mean? What does it mean?

The Inner Child’s Wisdom

You know the answer that popped into my head regularly? Regularly? After I was practicing these kinds of mindful practices? It was that my own inner child, my own subconscious mind, was right there, right there at the forefront, looking to protect, looking to preserve what it believed is true.

Unconditional Love in Anxiety

So unconditionally loving that it would send me these anxiety symptoms at particular times of the day, in particular, in particular environments, around particular people. Why? To harm me? No. To protect me? Yes. To remind me? Yes. It doesn’t know any better. The brain has never seen the outside world. The brain can only go by the interpretation of your senses.

Transforming Perception

What do you see? But can you change your perception over what you see? Yes. What do I hear? What do I hear? Can I change my perception over what I hear? Yes. What do I feel? Can I even change my perception over what I feel? Yes. Can anxiousness be excitement? Yes. You can change it all. You’re so much more powerful than what the world is telling you today.

Empowering Choices

No, you don’t need that product. No, you don’t need that thing, that commercial that keeps playing out, saying this is going to help your anxiety. No. It’ll keep you coping, yes. But it won’t help your anxiety.

Conclusion

Let’s go over these steps again. Step one, become aware. Feeling in the body, intrusive idea. Step two, cause and effect. What created it? What mental or physical response did it lead to?
